Artist Statement
I am currently producing Colour Field abstraction, which includes the treatment of illusion of space, the play to particular colour combinations on the spectator, and the balancing of geometric configurations on the picture plane.
Historically, the painting of the Colour Field artists of the 1950s and 1960s still adhered to the traditions of purism within Modernist abstraction. It was agreed the tradition that partially emerged from the work of earlier abstract painters such as Malevich.
Moreover, the question I must constantly respond to is the fact that painting Colour Field in the late 2000s does not mean the same as the work produced by earlier generations. This is because such work was produced in a different historical period with different aesthetic parameters and conventions. How does Colour Field painting in the 2000s fit into the context of the 2000s where object-related art seems to be displacing the act of painting?
I, therefore, have instilled an expressive element in which not only through the use of colour, texture but also through the form of rigid geometric abstraction in the work. As they are for symbolic purposes to reflect the energetic fortitude of human beings; and as hope kindles hope. It is a commentary that is expressed in the use of abstract symbols rather than in pure figuration.
